Arrived : Perth Feb 1835 aboard Caroline at Swan Colony via Hobart

Charged: Aug 1835 with theft 3 planks of native mahogany - sentenced to 1 months imprisonment.

Demoted: 03 sept 1840 to Private...unknown reasons

Discharged: 31st July 1840 Swan Colony Perth

Was named as a defaulter in the WA Mining Company August 1850.

Owned 10 acres in the Avon district 1855.

Michael John Jnr married Mary Hale in 1856

They were a pioneer family of the Williams,Arthur River and Narrogin area

They had 10 children


Bridget married Alexander McGregor in 1851,a soldier with the 99th Regiment and they returned to Ireland with his regiment.After his death she returned to W.A. and married John Robert Bruce.All told she had 5 Children


Ellen married Thomas Alexander Gray ( a Parkhurst Boy) in 1854

After her mothers death in 1838 she was raised by the

Colonial Chaplain John B Wittenoom

Settled York /Beverley/Pingelly areas

Changed Spelling of name from GRAY to GREAY

History and Achievements

Michael Quinn Jnr was a pioneering pastoralist in the Williams River area and his name can be found on the foundation stone of the Agricultural Hall at Williams. He served on the Roads Board in 1871.

Had large pastoral lease on upper Williams River known as Glenfield and another called Ballagin near the junction of the Buchanan and Arthur River where he ran sheep.

His wife Mary Hale b 1843 comes from another prominent pioneering WA family

They were married when she was 14,had 13 children and she died from Typhoid fever in 1891 when she was 46 yo
